When was Arlington founded and how did it get its name?
Arlington was laid out by railroad men in 1876 and named for General Robert E. Lee's home in Virginia. European settlement in the area dates back at least to the 1840s. Six Flags Over Texas opened in 1961; the Texas Rangers relocated from Washington in 1972; the Dallas Cowboys began playing at the new Cowboys Stadium (now AT&T Stadium) in 2009.
